Anterior Cervical Discectomy

Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) is a surgical procedure designed to treat conditions affecting the cervical spine (neck). It involves the complete removal of a damaged spinal disc (discectomy), followed by the fusion of the two adjacent vertebrae where the disc was located.

Indications for ACDF Surgery is commonly performed under the following conditions

Herniated Disc : A spinal disc may bulge out of its normal position due to accidents, sudden jerks, extreme neck movements, or lifting heavy objects.
In severe cases, the disc may detach completely, leading to a condition called extrusion, where the displaced disc compresses the spinal cord within the spinal canal.

Disc Degeneration : Wear and tear of the spinal disc, commonly associated with aging, can lead to chronic neck pain and nerve-related issues.

Nerve Compression and Pain : Compression of the cervical spine nerves due to a herniated disc can result in severe pain, tingling, and numbness extending from the neck to the arm and fingers.

ACDF is typically recommended when non-surgical treatments fail to provide adequate relief from symptoms.
